Show and Tell Friday

Show and Tell

This is Friday so it must be Show & Tell over at Kelli's House!
If you would like to see what everyone is "Showing & Telling" about, head on over to her place!
~
You will never guess where I got this beautiful bowl and pitcher! Here is the story but you must promise to still like me after you find out! :~}
One day while unloading garbage at the refuse transfer station (a much more pleasant term than 'garbage dump'), my husband came to the door of our pick-up truck. (I always ride along to write the check, but never get out. Yuk!) He asked me if I would like an old pitcher he spotted just sitting there. I am always on the look out for useful 'free' items and asked if he could bring it for me to look at. A moment later he returned with a greasy, dusty yellowed bowl and pitcher. The bowl had a 4 inch broken off section that was lying in the bottom of it. We think someone was cleaning out an old kitchen where it may have been displayed above the cupboards hence all the thick grease and dust.
We took them home and bathed them in hot soapy water and disinfected them with vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. I glued the piece back onto the bowl and now have a lovely set. You would not know these were the same pieces. I think they made up for the $9.00 we paid for depositing out trash!

What do you think?

I love stories like this! I think 80% of the things in my home came from garage sales, hand-me-downs or even curbside on trash days :) Your pitcher and bowl is most lovely!

I think you did a great job of restoring that bowl and pitcher!!! And now it sits so proper in its new home. I won't throw anything away unless I know it's a hopeless case. I am glad you gave it a new home.!!! Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Sue

Dear Lady Farmer,

I think that is a lovely story~so like a parable of the Lord, finding us lying in a pile of refuse, and taking us Home, all clean and fixed up!

Love,

Marqueta

Wow! The transformation is amazing (I'm asuming since I didn't see it in it's orignal condition) it almost looks like brand new. What a great find! I love your blog! I plan to add it as one of my favorites. I'm not sure if I should list it under the homemaking sites or the farming sites....Perhaps both?

So I guess you could say that you won the contest for best find that day. Did Dad find anything worth taking home?

That is unbelievable. One man's trash really is another man's (or woman's!) treasure. Its very lovely and I'm glad it will have many more years of being cherished.
