Show & Tell Friday

Today for Kelli's Show & Tell, I would like to share some pictures of items from my childhood.

I grew up on my Grandparents farm, and Grandpa once had a small dairy herd. Here are some articles I found in the barn.

~

~

Milk bottle collection. (Most from Grandpa's barn.)

Cow bells .

Crochet apron made by Auntie Emma.

~

~

Butter churn.

I remember making butter in this very one!

Nothing tastes better than fresh, home churned sweet cream butter!

~

~

Milk bottle carrier with milk bottles from local dairies.

~

~

Cream top bottles.

One has a cream dipper spoon and the other is a "baby face" bottle.

Grandma's very old, handmade cutting board in back.

(This cutting board was the inspiration for Christmas gifts made by the Gentleman Farmer to his daughters.)

~

~

Gram's old Yellow ware bread bowl,

sitting on a doily crocheted by her.
(The bread bowl, apron, cutting board and doily were NOT found in the barn! :~} Gram gave them to me.)

~

~

Hope you enjoyed going down memory lane with me.

Be sure to visit all the other gals participating in the Show & Tell.

Proud as a Peacock!

Lady and Gentleman Farmer are so pleased to announce that our youngest daughter S. has successfully passed her thesis defense and will receive her Master of Science in Conservation Biology at upcoming graduation ceremony on Mother's Day!
~~~
~
S. has been studying bats for the past few years and effects of habitat change on them. The summer of her field study, she and a "helper" (that would be a fellow student, her father (if available) or me!) We would drive 1 1/2 hours up to specified old growth Forest Service land and set up her "bat monitoring devices" and take notes and measurements of surrounding tree types within a 50 ft. circumference. These monitors ($1000.00 each!) would need to be packed in. Many of the areas were quite steep and had many downed trees to navigate. No matter the weather, these needed to be set out or taken down and information recorded. (This old gal got a real work out, I'm telling ya, trying to keep up with a 20 something year old!)
(Bat monitor seen below, in protective tote. These record bat sounds.)
~
Below is some of the lovely scenery seen on an average work day. This was the view from her "office."
~
~
We will be traveling across the states to New York to watch her graduate.
I can't think of a better Mother's Day Present!
This girl has had an exciting life! She has worked in Alaska's Denali National Park (trapping voles ~the Grizzly bear's main food scorce), two summers in Montana's Glacier National Park (studying Grizzly Bears) and then to tamer critters ~ bats ~ here in her home state of Washington.
What's next for this daring damsel? What else ~ two weeks after graduation, she is off to Cameroon, Africa for a study for her Ph.D.!
(Pray for me, won't you? All you mothers out there will understand!)
Were You There?
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
O! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble!
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
O! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble!
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
O! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble tremble!
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?"
~
" And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take. And it was the third hour when they crucified Him. And the inscription of the charge against Him read, "THE KING OF THE JEWS." And they crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left. [And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And He was numbered with the transgressors."] And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself, and come down from the cross!" In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!" And those who were crucified with Him were casting the same insult at Him. And when the sixth hour had come, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAS THOU FORSAKEN ME?" And when some of the bystanders heard it, they began saying, "Behold, He is calling for Elijah." And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "Let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down." And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last. And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"
Mark 15: 24-39
This is not the end! This true story to be continued!
Resurrection Eggs!
Many years ago, as a young Christian Mom, I learned of the Resurrection Eggs as an alternative to the secular hunting of "Easter Eggs." You can purchase these as a set of twelve in most Christian Book Stores or online, but, more recently, as I was teaching these stories for 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School class, this was the perfect opportunity to create an "egg" for many of the stories we had studied and what a great review for Easter Sunday! If you have young ones you are teaching at home, what a perfect way to learn these stories from the Bible and be creative with items you find for each story. Make them as you read the stories, hide them, hunt them and let the little ones retell the story as they have learned them as they open them and reveal something inside. Even the smallest will remember them with great excitement! I brought my Resurrection Eggs to Farmer's Daughter M's house on Sunday. We hid the eggs for the two granddaughters, and 4 yr. old Raegan, who knew many of the stories already, could recite them all back to me after only seeing them and hearing my version 1 time!
Here is my version.
~
I number each egg and write down corresponding Scripture to be read as each egg is opened.
Palm Sunday
~
"And when they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them, and bring them to Me. And if anyone says something to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them." Now this took place the what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, " "SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY, EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.' " And the disciples went and did just as Jesus had directed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid on them their garments, on which He sat. And most of the multitude spread their garments in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees, and spreading them in the road. And the multitudes going before Him and those who followed after were crying out, saying,
"Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!"
