Show and Tell Friday

Show and Tell

This is Friday so it must be Show & Tell over at Kelli's House!
If you would like to see what everyone is "Showing & Telling" about, head on over to her place!
~
You will never guess where I got this beautiful bowl and pitcher! Here is the story but you must promise to still like me after you find out! :~}
One day while unloading garbage at the refuse transfer station (a much more pleasant term than 'garbage dump'), my husband came to the door of our pick-up truck. (I always ride along to write the check, but never get out. Yuk!) He asked me if I would like an old pitcher he spotted just sitting there. I am always on the look out for useful 'free' items and asked if he could bring it for me to look at. A moment later he returned with a greasy, dusty yellowed bowl and pitcher. The bowl had a 4 inch broken off section that was lying in the bottom of it. We think someone was cleaning out an old kitchen where it may have been displayed above the cupboards hence all the thick grease and dust.
We took them home and bathed them in hot soapy water and disinfected them with vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. I glued the piece back onto the bowl and now have a lovely set. You would not know these were the same pieces. I think they made up for the $9.00 we paid for depositing out trash!

Oh Happy Day!

I recently entered a couple of give~aways and was drawn as the happy recipient for two. I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of these items and yesterday
the mailman came with gifts in hand.
This first box is from Sandy at Quill Cottage. She makes many lovely items and this give~away was for several Valentines she also has tutorials for.
I opened the box to first find a little note telling me she chose her Bird Cage Valentine because it is the one I said I liked best.
The box revealed a cellophane bag, nestled into a cushion of pattern tissues, secured with a handmade closure of the same paper used in the Valentine.
~

~
Inside the bag was lovely hand cut strips of co-ordinating confetti.
(Sorry, don't know why Blogger turns some of my photos!)
~
~
There are little jewels and flowers across the top, and it is edged with old fashioned trim.
Around the perimeter of the Valentine, Sandy wrote,"Lift the loop and you shall see...
That which makes me think of thee."
Upon lifting the little velvet loop one sees two darling little blue birds singing on a flowering branch!
This 'tweet' Valentine made my heart sing, too.
Thank you Sandy, it is delightful.
~

~
The next box is from Selia at Down the Rabbit Hole. She makes the most wondrous tassels. Not only was my name chosen, but I could choose which tassel I would like. I asked for one with a bird or birdhouse,(do you see a pattern here? I love birds.) but would be perfectly happy with any that she decided.
I was so curious which one she picked out, but never did I expect to receive
all these treasures in the box. Just look at all this bounty!
First, there is this precious hang tag with embossed detail around the edge.
~

~
Then I saw this little paisley be-ribboned bag. How did you know, Selia, I love paisley and the ribbon is my favorite shade of sage green!
Inside was.....
~

~
the most darling little handkerchief and little charm with my initial!
I am almost squealing with delight, at this time. Then I find a delicious bar of Eucalyptus soap, a little box with an English Ivy votive candle, and then...
~

~
just a little longer~
~
(in amongst the treasures[above] is the beautiful handmade card/mailing label that was atop the shipping box. The details are just amazing! Sorry you can't see much, but I didn't want to reveal our mailing addresses.)
~
Isn't this the most precious thing you have ever seen!
~

~
Thank you, Selia, he is an absolute delight!
~
~
Thank you Selia and Sandy for such beautiful 'work of your hands.'
~
Since we are speaking of give~aways, be sure to visit me in The Sewing Room (click image on side bar). I am having a little give~away of my own. I hope you join in.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell

Kelli is having a Show & Tell so I thought I would join in this Friday.

~

This is my collection of Collie Dogs.

~

Gentleman Farmer gifted me with this framed print of "In Disgrace" featuring a beautiful collie and a little blond girl, looking like my two little daughters. (He knows my love for little blond girls and collie dogs.)

~

~

Then I started collecting antique glass collie figurines.

~

~

~

~

This is an old collie picture that was my husband's Grandmother's.

~

I have had three real collie dogs in my life; Mr. Beans was the first collie on my Grandparents farm where I grew up. Then when I was married, we had Brandy, a beautiful Tri-color collie. And the last dog we had was sweet little Gypsy. She was not full collie, but was just as sweet, intelligent and loyal.

(See her photo at the bottom of my blog.)

~

Thanks, Kelli, for hosting this show and tell.

God's Accuracy

The following is an email that I recieved. I enjoyed it and thought you might also.

~~~
How lovely to think about the way our Creator God planned everything so carefully and perfectly, everything with a plan. As His highest creation, 'we are fearfully and wonderfully made.' God's accuracy may be observed in the hatching of eggs. For example, the eggs of the potato bug hatch in 7 days; those of the canary in 14 days; those of the barnyard hen in 21 days.
~
~
The eggs of ducks and geese hatch in 28 days; the eggs fo the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42 days. (Notice, they are all divisible by seven). God's wisdom is seen in the making of the elephant.
~
~
The four legs of this great beast all bend forward in the same direction. No other quadruped is so made. God planned that this animal would have a huge body, too large to live on two legs. For this reason He gave it four fulcrums so that is can rise from the ground easily.
~
~
~
A cow rises from the ground with its two hind legs first.
~
~
How wise the Lord is in all His works of creation! God's wisdom is revealed in His arrangement of sections and segments, as well as in the number of grains. Each watermelon has an even number of stripes on the rind. Each orange has an even number of segments.
~
~
Each ear of corn has an even number of rows.
~
~
Each stalk of wheat has an even number of grains.
~
~
Every bunch of bananas has, on its lowest row, an even number of bananas, and each row decreases by one, so that one row has an even number and the next row an odd number.
~
~
The waves of the sea roll in on shore twenty-six to the minute in all kinds of weather.
~
~
All grains are found in even numbers on the stalks. The Lord specified thirty fold, sixty fold, and a hundred fold - all even numbers.
God has caused the flowers to blossom at certain specified times during the day, so that Linneus, the great botanist, once said the if he had a conservatory containing the right kind of soil, moisture and temperature, he could tell the time of day or night by the flowers that were open and those that were closed!
~
~
Thus the Lord in His wonderful grace can arrange the life that is entrusted to His care in such a way that it will carry out His purposes and plans, and will be fragrant with His presence. Only the God-planned life is successful. Only the life given over to the care of the Lord is safe.
Friends
~~~~~

Yesterday was full of friends, fellowship and food! Several long time friends have been trying to get together to re~aquaint after moving, babies and time and we finally managed it with the exception of one. We missed you Shan! :~{

Eldest Farmers' Daughter arranged for all to meet at The Farm, each bringing a dish for our lunch and keeping little ones in mind.

I made up a steaming pot of Baked Potato Soup (curtesy of Mrs. H at http://heritageschoolhouse.blogspot.com/), deviled eggs, (curtesy of Girls of the Hen Haus here on the Farm), and Banana Bread Deluxe (recipe follows).

Eldest Daughter M (www.theBrowningsGreenhouse.blogspot.com) brought meats, cheeses, bread and romaine for sandwiches. (She also brought two darling treasures!)

Mrs. E.H. brought a tasty Carrot/Coconut/Raisin Salad.

Mrs. S.E. brought 3 little loaves of delicious homemade whole grain bread (which little mouths devoured instantly.) I need to get her recipe!

Mrs. Z.H. (http://theadventuresofbabyroo.blogspot.com/) and Mrs. J.H. (http://haaphome.blogspot.com/) brought fruit and delicious PeanutButter/Oatmeal/Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Mrs. B.B. brought delightful finger jello which was a hit with the 10 children (all 5yrs. and under!)

After a buffet style lunch, the children settled in to watch some Beatrix Potter movies, while mothers and grandmothers caught up on each other's happenings, babies and life.

A Gift of Love

~~~~~
From the Lady and Gentleman Farmer to all who visit here.
"If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. When I was a child, I used to speak as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall know fully just as I also have been fully known. But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
Under The Weather!
I have been abed these last few days with a nasty flu bug. I am hoping to read all your lovely posts when I am able to be in an upright position for more than a couple of minutes. In the meantime, would you all say a little prayer for me?
I would so appreciate it ( and so would Dear Gentleman Farmer. We are both tired of living on a liquid diet of ginger ale and soup!) :~}
